Le Grand Siecle / Japanese Maple

In partnership with the HÔTEL DE LA MARINE and the NATIONAL MONUMENTS CENTER, Le Grand Siecle brand has launched this Indigo Blue Japanese Maple wallpaper dating from the end of the 18th century. After carrying out a meticulous digital restoration, the motif is printed on a very precious pearlescent wallpaper which enhances all its delicacy and gives it a real shine with its iridescent surface. With its delicate birds, leaves and branches, it is very representative of 18th-century tastes for cheerful and light patterns such as Marie-Antoinette loved.

The original design of this wallpaper is located at the HÔTEL DE LA MARINE, more precisely in the small private apartments of Madame Thierry de Ville d’Avray, wife of the intendant of the King Louis XVI storage room. It was rediscovered during the restoration of the Hôtel which took place between 2016 and 2021. Its manufacture is unknown but it seems to be dated from the end of the 18th century. Very damaged, it nevertheless retained all its colours and delicacy.
